  1. really depends on wat you consider comfortable, but Im going to assume basic necessities, food, clothing, safe housing, and some things that are more luxuries, cable, phone, airconditioning. You would need $1000.00. a month. That is including saving 10% 100.oo dollars a month.

  2. To the average Panamanian. Not born with a silver spoon. $400 a month

  3. 1,500-2,000  but there arent many jobs that pay that much

Normal salary there would be between 400 and 800 dollars a month.  You need to incomes to be able to sustain your family

  4. The average salary in Panama is only 400-800usd a month.I really do not understand how people can survive on that amount of money. My best friend's nephew immigrated there from Colombia and he's making 800usd a month in a winshield factory in Albrook. That's good money in Panama. I wish Panamanians could get jobs like that.

  5. The short answer is that you'll probably need at least $1,300 monthly income to live at a level of personal comfort and consumption that would make you want to stay here.

Where you live has a huge impact on your cost of living. If you want to or have to be in Panama City then your costs almost double due to housing. If you can or want to live in the interior of the country then you can significantly reduce your costs.

The average income in Panama is $400 per month (period). Please note that an average income for a country can not be a "range" from $400 to $800 or something like that. A great many people in Panama live in abject poverty and are unemployed which brings the average income down considerably. But according to the official numbers recently released by the Comptroller's office, $400 per month is the number.

It's very hard to live at this level of income in Panama but because there are so many people doing it, by definition it can be done. And remember that because this is an average, half of the people in the country are getting by on LESS than $400 per month. However at that level of monthly spending you will be living at a survival level, riding public transportation, living in a poor neighborhood or slum, etc.

The people in Panama who are not considered poor but rather working lower class typically have two incomes combined from a husband and wife. There is no instance of drug or other substance abuse, gambling, or other types of economic suicide. Family income (combined) will be around $1,000 per month, and at that rate you can live in a relatively nice place, like a small house or apartment, but it's not going to be near the center of Panama City. There are places where you can buy a small (very small) house for as little as $200 per month payment. Add food, utilities, clothing, school, and other daily expenses and you still end up with zero at the end of the month but your standard of living is higher.

Most of your expenses will come down to consumption. If you want to run an air conditioner 24 hours a day it's going to cost you when it's time to pay the electric bill. If you are happy with less consumption, cook your own food, and learn to get by with less (at all levels) then you can find your own personal comfort level.

I know people who spend $8,000 per month in Panama and they are still not happy with their lives. They want more, larger houses or apartments, bigger boats, faster cars, the newest (whatever.) There are people in Panama who are very rich and who live extravagant lifestyles.

So, the bottom line on this question is always the same - yes. You can "get by" at any level, be it living under a bridge or in a three-story penthouse. Hope this helps.
