  1. Six months is the minimum duration for a US tourist visa.

  2. Yes Six months, like in Dubai also.

  3. Passing through a U.S. Port of Entry

Applicants should be aware that a visa does not guarantee entry into the United States. Immigration authorities have the authority to deny admission, and determine the period for which the bearer of a visitor visa is authorized to remain in the United States.

At the port of entry, an Immigration official must authorize the traveler's admission to the U.S. At that time the Form I-94, Record of Arrival-Departure, which notes the length of stay permitted, is stamped. Those visitors who wish to stay beyond the time indicated on their Form I-94 must contact the USCIS to request Form I-539, Application to Extend Status. The decision to grant or deny a request for extension of stay is made solely by the USCIS.

Find out more information about the differences between a visa and a Record of Arrival-Departure on the CBP website.

  4. used to be 6 months but after 9 11 things changed.i think you only get the amount of time you say you will stay-and you will be asked what you will be doing during that visit

  5. Actually, the minimum duration of a US tourist visa is one entry, 3 months. However, there is a significant difference under US law between the duration of the visa, and the authorized length of stay. The duration of the visa means that it must be used during that time, so with a three month visa, it would have to be used within 3 months of issuance. It would remain valid to enter the US right up to, but not beyond, the last day of validity. The consular officers at the embassy decide on visa duration, subject to a number of conditions.

The airport immigration inspectors, CBP, decide on authorized stay, or how long a person can remain in the US on the current entry. The standard issuance is 6 months, but they can issue for shorter periods if they choose. If a person were coming to attend a convention, they might authorize only 1 or 2 weeks, but usually they don't. Also, it is possible to request an extension of the athorized stay by filing the request with USCIS. Staying past the authorized stay on a visa that is valid for multiple entries over a 5 or 10 year period can lead to the cancellation of the visa by CBP on the next attempted entry, because the visa holder failed to comply with the terms of his last stay.

  6. no minimum, the consul will decide by what you have shown  him about your trip.

Sometimes it depends on his mood also, but there is no minimum.

A Visa means you can enter the country, the I-94 will show how long you can stay. You get the I-94 at the border or airport after you show your travel documents.

Usually US issues 10 year visas if you show that you're not going to illegally immigrate.

  7. George, as usual, is correct in general.  Although one entry three months is usually the minimum a consular officer will issue, we can and do - rarely, but we do - issue them for far less time.  The shortest visa I ever issued was for one week, one entry.  Although I knew that CBP would let the person stay as long as they thought appropriate, there were good and compelling reasons to get that traveler to finally go get on an airplane and stop dinking around.  It worked.
