  1. I wouldn't say it has a particular mood. There are several different narrators and it isn't a linear storyline, and that doesn't allow for only one mood to run through it. It's a serious, thought-provoking book that deals with a serious issue and addresses difficult moral questions, but many of the characters have a voice that allows them to address it more light-heartedly. To give an example (and I'm assuming you know the basic gist of what it's about; if not, this is a bit of a spoiler), Anna, the girl who was born so that she could be a donor for her sister who suffers from leukemia, and who is thirteen as she tells her part of the story, says this about her conception:

"I've known since I was seven how I was conceived, and it wasn't that huge a deal. First off, my parents told my when the thought of them having s*x was far more disgusting than creation in a petri dish ... But a designer baby? ... If my parents were going to go to all that trouble, you'd think they'd have made sure to implant the genes for obedience, humility and gratitude."

The only thing I can really say of the book as a whole is that it's incredibly moving. It's well worth reading.
