What is the most Popular Pedigree breed and why?

I would like to know what is the most popular Pedigree Dog in the World and why do you think this this is?

I believe the #1 on AKC's list is labrador retriever.  I personally believe this would be because they are very smart, very loyal, and great family dogs.

Border collie. They are working dogs on a lot of farms, and i hear they are great pets and easy to train etc.

when i go to store and groomers i see mainly shih tzus and cockers.

when 101 dalmatians came out, they sold a lot of dalmatians.  it goes in cycles on what people want.
