I'm looking into the top end CZ's , but is there something better. Should be heavy/big barrel and without exterior sights.

  1. Yes there is something better.... Anschutz... And when your done choking at the price tags consider a CZ...

Anschutz is what they use in the Olympics... Type Anschutz in a search engine and a whole new world of target rifles will open up....

  2. Winchester model 52B.* Target Rifle.*

  3. The most accurate today is probably an Anshutz either their 164 or 54

actions, but the price is somewhat steep.  Of American made guns, my bet would be on Kimber, also pricey.  The CZ's are very good as well.  Do not count out a new Browning t-bolt in their target model with a heavy barrel.

Even with a fine weapon, .22 lr ammo plays a large part in overall accuracy.  Each gun will have a " pet " load that will out shoot others

    example:

I have a Remington 541-s model that shoots either Eley, or Federal gold medal into a dime at 50 yards, but shoots Remington golden in 2.5 inches at the same distance.  All other brands fall in between these

Once you decide on which gun, buy many boxes of all types of 22's and spend a lot of time enjoying the quest of the perfect round for your gun.

I once was counciled to buy the best 22 you can afford, as it will be a pleasure for the rest of your life.  You will shoot it more than all other guns, at a notably reduced cost.

One last teaser, Remington is producing a model 547 from thier custom shop, that looks really fine, and gauranteed to shoot into 1/2 inch at 50 yards with the right ammo. This rifle is made specially for a large wholesaler, and is truly fine to look at.

  4. That depends on what you are doing with it. CZ's are great, but if you are looking into competition, try Anschutz. This rifle, with lapua ammo, is the combination that pros are using to win serious competitions. Even Kimber would be a good choice, if money is no option. It's simple, you pay for what you get. If you are just plinking, try the Savage 12 BTVSS in .22lr, or .22wmr. You'll find the thumb hole stock very comfortable, and it is a stainless bull barrel for enhanced accuracy. It also comes with a 7 shot clip and is priced under $400.

  5. I am a big critic of the gun magazine reviews as they are mostly BS written by guys that get free guns and lavish Vegas parties with paid escorts from the gun company reps, however there is one review you should read about the surprisingly affordable Savage Mark II. Reports are all over the net of this rifle shaking up rimfire competitions all over the country, and competitive sporter class competition winner verify the quality of this sub $300 rifle.

  6. define "most" accurate.

There are any one of several commonly available .22 rifles that will shoot better than your or my abilty to hold them on target.

CZ builds a couple of good ones ...so does Savage, Kimber, Ruger...even old Remington and Winchester bolt rifles ...

Marline 39's are usally tack drivers too... and they are lever actions.

We have shot a variety of pumps and semi autos that would do well too

Any may be able to shoot "one hole groups" at 50 yards. .22 LR is an inherently accurate round... but distance limited as it is low-powered.

Any .22 will be wind sensitive... and any individual weapon will prefer one ammo to any other for best results
