I know ask my counselor, but I've tried and I know more than them. No one has ever done it at my school, even though we do get foreign exchange students. I will be a senior next year and I really would love to go and learn for either a semester or a whole year. I know that its' going to be expensive but I really can't afford to much (I already work). Can anyone help me?

Does anyone know about scholarships for exchanges? I know programs usually have them, but I also know they're REALLY competitive, and I'm not the smartest kid. I haven't taken any classes of the language but i know a tiny bit. I'd also like to find a school to learn on the weekends in Ohio, USA.

  1. I know a couple of people who wound up in Japan on Rotary.  They do most of the financing, and you have to pay, like the airfare and a little more (check with the Rotarians, I'll bet a search of Rotary Clubs of America would do the trick).  The only problem is that you get very little choice of where the Rotarians send you.

Try doing a search of "study abroad", and learn more that way.  Also, speak to the organizers of the exchange programs at your school.  There are advisors and parents who work directly with your exchange program.

If this doesn't work out financially, start saving your money, and make plans for a year in University, or to work there.  I understand they pay native speakers of English VERY well in Japan to teach, if you're into that.  It's, if nothing else, a good way to finance a year stay.

    Good luck.
