  1. I think the other answers have been good.  They each say different pines, and that is the key.  The best pine tree is the local native specie.

If you plant a pine from another area it will not do as well because the environmental conditions that affect growth and health are compromised.

A good example is here in South Florida when back in the 1940's a plantation of North Florida Slash Pines were planted and grew for many years; until the 1990's when after a partial harvest most of the remaining trees died from pine boring beetles.  This was due to the stress of their growing conditions allowing the infestation.

In fact, many areas of Florida were hit hard by beetle infestations due to large outbreaks in planted pines. There were places near Gainesville that wide swaths of forest were cut down in attempts to stop their progress.

When pines are stressed, they may actually "broadcast" the fact and attract these bugs.  They are stressed by living outside their range.

  2. Up here it is white pine.  Once the forest has grown for awhile it is cleared of dying trees and thinned and other trees are added (not always).

Trees are normally planted 6ft apart in rows.

  3. Radiata.....I am fairly sure.

  4. It depends upon place to place. You have not mentioned the place but if you talk about Nepal, mainly two types of pine are planted. These are Pinus roxburghii and Pinus wallichiana.
