The most popular site in the UK is www.gumtree.com Most of the traffic going there is to the jobs and adult section.

I think the problem here is that craigslist has tried to take over the world with their country/city sections. They have a UK section to the site - which you probably know - but to me I think that would render any 2nd place competitor to be so far behind... that no one would recognize the name, and they wouldn't be worth the time visiting yet. (Until they pop up on the radar)
