The only experience we have is with what life exists on this planet.  There is no way to answer this question because you said "universe" and we simply don't know what else is out there.

And, it is profoundly arrogant to even suggest that humans are the "Master Life".  There is so much about human beings that is a real mess; we're not even the masters of our own lives.

that's impossible to answer but as far as we wanna admit, we are. unless of-course you believe in Aliens and UFOs. i personally do believe in them and therefore think that they're the smartest ones for now. but of-course the universe is infinite therefore there's a huge chance that there's a being out there that's smarter then them.

The number of earths in the universe suitable for sentients like us, according to the latest Rare Earth theory constraints, is one every 25 million cubic light years.  So there's plenty of them out there, but only us in the Milky Way or Andromeda Galaxy.  There's 5 or 10 more in our Local Supercluster, as the density of galaxies goes up in its conglomeration. Other civilizations are millions of years older than ours and they will be far advanced of us, and certainly could remain undetectable to us. You could have an alien tourist looking over your shoulder right now!, be careful what you say about them...

Well it is a mammal known as Human Beings. I'm not saying there is not anything more intelligent then us somewhere in that massive universe, just simply we do not know either way and judging by the size of the universe we're very unlikely to ever know!
