  5. you lot have got facts totally wrong, research on google you will find  that the highest murder rate in england is actually in London, the highest gun and gang related crime again is in London, but the rate of murders per person is highest in Nottingham, but again nottingham hasnt got anywhere close the number of knife and gun related murders in total, its just the amount divided by the population figure......London has the highest murder rate, gun, knife and car crime, Manchester has the second highest knife crime in the UK.....glasgow wasnt even mentioned in the top 10 worste cities, it seems people have actually fabricated facts...........places such as france, belgium, holland and germany are similar but do not have high concentrations of people in small areas, so have relatively less crime, for western europe, London is by far one the worste in terms of murder and organised crime, but because it the financial capital of europe people look past it as its the 3rd city with the most Billionaires in the world.

  6. Glasgow isn't dangerous. Like one person above quite rightly pointed out - it's more the image of being tough that people here aspire to, and the historical reputation. Don't get me wrong, people here are perhaps just that bit more willing to fight for just that bit less reason, but it certainly doesnt't equate to it being the most dangerous city in Europe - by a long way. I should know, I was born and raised in the East End; Easterhouse to be exact, which I'm sure some will have heard of. It's fairly easy to start/be the target of a fight, but the malice involved is always something of an anticlimax when compared against the expectation you would reasonably have given Glasgows reputation. The most common murder scene is two young men drinking in a flat at a weekend, with a knife. There's so much you could discern from that fact alone. Next up, gangs - Glasgows real gangs/organised, not the neddy little gangs that play cat and mouse, but rarely square up. There does in fact seem to be quite an actively murderous underworld scene here. Responsible for a generous percentage of Glasgows annual murder count no doubt. Other than those two, there will just be isolated incidents the same as happen everywhere. Glasgow really ain't that bad, and I've lived in some of the most criminal and violent parts of it - I should know. Having said that, it is still gritty and base compared to other British cities, but the reputation... When light is cast on something, the shadow always takes on a bigger form than the actual object. Glasgows reputation corresponds with this analogy.

The reputation is a facade, much like the actual social importance of an Old Firm game. (Let's just be honest, guys)

  7.  Anywhere big cities in the UK really.  For some reason Brits have a terrible problem with anti-social behaviour, robbery, crime, people not being able to handle their drink etc.  People say that it is confined to small areas of those cities, but those areas are growing and to get in and out of British cities you usually have to pass through at least one war-zone ghetto

  8. The amount of people who claim Glasgow to be one of the most dangerous cities is weird to me. It has a bad reputation around Scotland... actually around all of the UK basically but based on things that happened so long ago. Any problems it has now are much the same you'll find in all other cities in UK, Ireland and pretty much all others in Europe. Knife crime is reported higher than elsewhere in Europe however this is really confined to areas where gangs are against each other. There are several of these areas but they mostly lie in pairs so don't cross over to places of interest. It's also rare that this violence (carried out mainly by teenagers) happens to people outside of the gangs. It's just unfortunate when someone is singled out on the street and targeted but where doesn't this happen? Some areas and streets can be intimidating but mostly without reason.

I live in Glasgow and can take a pretty accurate guess that anyone posted here who has claimed it to be most dangerous either lives here too and wants to build up this "reputation" or lives somewhere in Scotland or UK and doesn't like the place. Boo hoo.. (we're very cheery people!)

  15. I believe Tallinn, Estonia is the murder capital of Europe, if that's the criteria you want to use to define dangerous.  However, most large Eastern European cities are actually regarded as being safer than their counterparts in western Europe.

Glasgow is NOT the most dangerous city in Europe, to live in or otherwise.  The "170 gangs in Glasgow" claim is highly dubious.  Most so-called "gangs" in Glasgow consist of a few kids who may like to cause trouble, but who rarely behave in a dangerous manner.  As for knife crime, statistics are also misleading since virtually all such crime is confined to a small number of areas in the inner city.  That's not good if you happen to live in such an area, but most Glaswegians don't.  Glasgow's main problem with crime and violence is an image problem, and the fact that alot of Glaswegians like to romanticise their city's "hard man" image.

To sum up:  I think most cities in Europe these days are actually quite safe, and there is no European city that I would describe as being truly dangerous.  As with most things, a little common sense goes a long way, wherever you are in the world.
