  1. Nikolaiviertel in Mitte is booming - rents have risen skyhigh. It was so bad, it made the news.

Marzahn is cheap, and generally so-so. It is not exactly a no-go zone, but not the nicest place. Lots of foreigners and right-wing radicals - not a good place for a coloured person to live, but ok if you are white and speak some basic German. Worst thing that frequently happens is people getting drunk and then starting making trouble, smashing things and picking fights. For one person, you can look in Marzahn and similar quarters for places renting out at 360-400 EUR warm rent (including heating) per month, for a family of 4 it is 650-700 EUR warm rent.

It might be possible to find places renting for less, but this is what you'll have to pay for something decent in a not-so nice area. I have no clue about the prices in the hip/good areas. Compared to other big cities life in Berlin is still relatively cheap though.

  2. Lichterfelde, Zehlendorf and Steglitz are all very nice areas to live. Kreuzberg, Neukoelln, Prenzlauerberg and pretty much anywhere in the former east are not that nice.

  3. For some people parts of "Prenzlauer Berg" would not be such a nice place but others love it for its youth and art culture. The same goes for "Berlin Mitte" and parts of "Kreuzberg". Some like it because it is so hip and colorful with its divers cultures and others don't.

Charlottenburg is definitely a very high price area with respect to apartments/houses. But still prices depend on what you are looking for (size, number of bedroom etc.).

  4. unter den Linden, Kurfurstendamm, Zoo,

  5. Pay homage at the holahoax museum.....
