Yes, it often depends on the practitioner of the art - but all things equal, which martial art is the most practical for self defense?

  1. Karate. Its basic but covers everything that you need for self defense.

  2. It doesn't matter wich art you do, it's the way you do it that will determine how efficient it is. I know it's not a cool answer, but I could say that fighting sport practice in a more realistic way, hence they could be more efficient.

  3. If you truely want to learn how to **** people up learn Muay Thai. Its known as the deadly art and the kicks and knees are ridiculous. Also Jiu Jitsu is nice because it teaches you how to choke out your opponent if he take you to the ground. Also in jiu jitsu you learn how to break peoples arms/legs, its great..

  4. i think karate is the best one.

it teaches you alot but it's basic too

  5. Just study one you're interested in in a good school.

This gets asked often, but it's kind of the wrong question to ask.

Self-defense is more about thinking clearly under stress and street smarts than anything else. If you have to use martial arts techniques, it's because you've failed at the basics of self-defense along the way. So it's your last line of defense, not the first solution.

What the arts in fact do for people in modern life is help them deal with the idea of violence in a comfortable setting, so that you won't tend to freeze up as much if anything happens. It also gives you a certain confidence that will translate into a vibe that criminals will want to avoid. But as far as which set of techniques is best, that's besides the point. There are so many situations you could be in, how could one art cover them all?

  6. Krav Maga was built off real world fighting and is built for quick effective strikes to your opponent in self defense leaving them unable to fight back

it has no grappling base so cross training that with say Combat Sambo would give you a solid self defense system all over with the abilty to break almost anything on your opponent no matter what

not to mention get yourself up to an instructor level in both and combine the two in a teaching method and you would have a serious real world fighting style that would dominate
