my home is somewhat infested i live in an apartment and management will only treat case by case ( not the building as a whole) so it seems that after spraying they go away for a minute but return soon after. I have a four year old little boy so my choice's of how and what to use must take his health into consideration thank all who answer. I am at my wits end

  1. some straight facts

1 German female roach can only have 28 eggs in a egg case and she can only release or make one egg case every 45 days.

Boric acid dust is a great product but read the label if you apply it everywhere as mentioned and mix in any other product you are in violation of the law and could be held responsible for the clean up of the apartment and the landlord will trust me when it comes to their rights they are on top of things.

second great product is Diatenasious earth organic powder that can be applied just about anywhere according to the label

third option is roach baits these are great Max Force bait can be applied anywhere according to the label roaches feed on it and die

Chemical spray's do nothing but scatter the roaches this day and age no reputable pest control company would even do this your building manager needs to get with the times and turf the "Billy Bob Exterminator) and get a reputable ompany to get rid of the problem yes it can be done the company I work for does it on a regular basis roaches are the easiest things to exterminate bed bugs and Pharaoh ants are the toughest

  2. you can try boric acid.

it comes as a powder and considered "organic" meaning that it's relatively harmless to humans as long as you don't ingest it or put it in your eye or something.

  3. I have lived in some terribly roach infested places.  We set off a bomb in each room, then afterwards placed roach motels in each room.  Maybe more than one per room.  The roach motels are fantastic. It wouldn't be long until we didn't have any roaches at all.

  4. big nickel is right about most of what he says. I am also in the pest control business and it IS possible to eradicate roaches from a building and should be done in a responsible manner. However, I do not agree with his criticism about the exterminator. As the owner of my company, I have frequently had to deal with cheap, idiot landlords who refuse to pay for service of the entire structure and instead want me to do the cheapest job possible. In the Landlord/Tenant laws within the city that I live, it states that if the pest is in more than one apartment, it is the landlord's responsibility to treat. If I were you, I would talk with someone in your city government to find out what rights you have, and then discuss this with the landlord.

FYI - I had a customer that lost her children because a roach crawled in her daughter's ear and she had to go to the emergency room to have it removed. Another customer was told that if she didn't do something about her roach problem that they would take her kids away.

  5. Patience and a lump hammer.

  6. I really hate to tell you this but cockroaches are one of thee hardests pests to get rid of. You can not effectively get rid of them if the apartment complex won't treat their whole appartment, because the exterminators will come to your apartment, treat it and the cockroaches go away to others apartments, but they will come back to yours. It will be a never ending cycle. So you need to find a long term solution to keep them at bay and aerosol cans will not do that, they are just temporary solutions to the problem.

Regardless you need to be informed of the dangers that cockroaches pose:  Cockroaches feed on food scraps and garbage, and can transfer germs by crawling on counter tops, clean dishes, and silverware. These germs could give you food poisoning and expose you and your family to other diseases. Another reason to be concerned is because some people who live in roach infested areas develop allergies that can trigger asthma.

I have listed a great website below, it has a plethera of information about roaches and how to treat them. I hope this helps.

In the meantime, I would try this solution:

Mix equal parts powdered sugar and borax in a bowl.

Sprinkle in cracks along walls and under cupboards.

Keep formula away from children and pets.

Repeat as necessary for one to two weeks until all roaches have died.

  7. Don't. They are living creatures too. How would you like it if I bombed the building you live in with everyone in it because I find it mildly annoying for some reason.

  8. just like sune said cockroaches have been around since the dawn of time you cant ever get rid of em ever a female cockroach can lay up to 5 million a week are even more so all that money you spend killing roaches they all ways wil be back they eat people food dead animals even cat food n dog food they have been around for along time in will be here when ever one is gone
