I don't have much money, I just want something that my wife won't hear me when I'm up too late. Our bedroom is right above my work room.

  1. Blankets. Stapled to the ceiling.

  2. the simplest way is to call a insulation contractor in and have them spray soundproofing insulation into the basements.

It would cost money but its the most efficient way to do it.

  3. there are hundreds of ways!!  eggboxes are good!

but my favourite is rolls of bubble rap, staple them to the wall all over, open up some boxes and lay them ontop, then one more layer of bubble rap!

but proffessionals use solid foam under layer, and coned foam (like egg boxes) for the showing layer, this diffuses the sound and reduces rebound!  soft sufaces dont rebound sound so easily!

    even a douvet would do!

my room is bubble rap, flat cardboard (the corrugated type), more bubble rap, then a layer of soft blankets!  stops most of the sound going out (not the basses though) and stops influencing frequencies from degrading recording done through the mic, also, i have wrapped high quality foam (dense and black and heavy) around my mic, which aids in the reduction of background bass, but also wind noise from your mouth!!

  4. The best do it yourself way is egg cartons on the ceiling covered by carpeting and if you can get enough to cover the walls do them the same way. other wise just put carpeting on the walls and ceiling. good luck.

  5. In my friends music studio he has thick acoustic tiles to sound proof his room, he glued them to the walls and the ceiling. There pretty cheap when buying them by the box. Try Home Depot.
