I was in Target yesterday with my 10-month old and he was getting hungry/crabby. So I started to make farting noises (which is always a big hit with him) and this woman peeks around the corner.....I think she thought I really was letting my bodily functions go to work. I'm not the type to get embarressed....but I did get a little red in the cheeks...!

  1. I always sing our made up song to him...people just stare lol..oh well...they can either deal with my bad singing or his screaming! I choose the singing!!! "Iannnn Riley, I love Ian Riley, Iannnnn Riley..he's so good for me!!!" it makes him stop crying and laugh every time...the bad part is ...once you start you can't start...I have to sing it over an dover and over or the tantrum starts all over!!

  2. I have always been the one to do the "Silly Faces and Dances" approach.

It helps out really well as your child/baby is really entertained.

I'd recommend trying this in future, or just stick with your approach!

    Hope i helped.

  3. Blow raspberries, very loud and obnoxiously. Makes her laugh every time...and nowadays, most of the time she blows them right back!

  4. Did you watch Friends when it was on? I loved the episode where Rachael sings "Baby Got Back" to Emma to get her to smile...sometimes I catch myself singing crazy songs to get Emily to smile and giggle. Last week I left my husband and daughter outside the the bathroom in Wal-Mart and when I came back out he was singing "I can't get noooooo, satisfaction" to her :)

  5. I'll do just about anything to get a laugh out of my little guy, and sometimes I forget I/we are in public. I'll sing, play a VERY dramatic version of peek-a-boo where I crouch and jump up, pretend like I am eating him, farting (with my mouth) on him, making faces, really what ever. I think the more we laugh in a day the better the day!! So I made him these little see through bottles with colourful beads in them (our shak-a-shakers) and he just loves them. sometimes (ok every day)when I am getting his food ready I'll give him one to shake and he'll make the music and I'll dance (I can't dance at all) and I flail my arms around and stomp I probably look like I am having a seizure. Well two things have happened while doing this dance. the other day I found myself doing it at the market, ya that was cool. its not like I was doing the toned down public version of it either....nope there I am swinging my arms jumping wiggling, pretending like I am swimming, I'm surprised someone didn't call 911. and also once while at home I was doing a spin when I saw the mail man looking at me through the screen door! that was nice

LOL we made up a song for our son too thats so funny!!

Laiton la la la la Laiton

    You such a handsome guy

Laiton la la la la Laiton

    Your my sweetie pie

Laiton la la la la Laiton

    your my little ham...........

I could sing/type the rest but I'm sure you have stuff to do!!!

  6. when my 3 year old was younger he liked it when I did my jump shake your booty.....jump jump shake your booty dance.  Needless to say it was pretty embarrassing but it always made him laugh

  7. I went to the store with my 3 week old & 2 year old yesterday. Both started to whine, So i started doing their Shake your booty & Slap dance, which they saw on T.V. They laughed histerically, People stared, Do i care? Nope!

  8. singing mostly. My husband made up a song for our daughter Marley that makes her giggle without fail, every time.

    "Marley bean, Marley bean.

    Where are you, Marley bean?

    Marley bean, Marley bean

    What do you do?"

It's so dumb, but if I sing that song to her, I get my errands done with no fussing!

  9. I sometimes have to sing loudly to get Lily to take her bottle. It makes her feel like she isn't going to sleep- which she likes to fight at times. Her song is you are my sunshine. I usually go somewhere there is less people but always end up caught because I am so loud! I pretty much scream the verse You are my sunshine, My only sunshine, You make me happy when skies are grey, You know dear how much I love you (I changed this part, its nicer), Please don't take my sunshine away. It always works thought I don't have to do it too often I have had to do it in public!

Great answers everyone- so true you loose a lot of shyness when you have a kid!

  10. i do that all the time! I never thought that people would think I was actually farting lol thanks.

I have found myself singing the "wonderpets" song once WITHOUT my baby. now those people thought I was nuts for sure!

  11. i am certain that people in this city know me as the chick who is always singing ABCs. 50% of the time ruby is in her stroller, she needs me to sing to her (or else she fusses to get out). so i am always walking down the street singing ABCs. always. we just got back from a trip to the east coast, and we got upgraded to first class on the long (5 hour flight) out. every time ruby started to fuss at all, her dad and i BOTH started singing the theme song from "the wonder pets" (ruby loves it) and pumping our fists in the air. "wonder pets! wonder pets! we're on our way, to help a friend and save the day! we're not too big, and we're not too tough, but when we work together we've got the right stuff! what's gonna work? TEAMWORK! what's gonna work? TEAMWORK!" oh yeah. it worked, but we did a lot of singing and pumping. when we got off the plane, 3 different people came up to me to tell me "i can't believe how good that baby was." one of them added, "and we heard you singing -- very nice." i was less embarassed than maybe i should have been. having a kid has made any self consciousness fly out the window.
