I'm referring to ways that are reasonably available to most people and not rowing across or floating across tied to a helium balloon.

  1. Here are a few steps.

    1. Make swim trunks out of pure cotton from sheep.

    2.Going naked is optional.

    3. Eat healthy energizing foods for 1 week straight.

    4. Walk to the shore and swim out to the closest land you can find.

    5. It will probably be Europe.

    6. You have just crossed the atlantic!

  2. like al gore does

    in a private jet

  3. Assuming that reasonable safety materials and instruments for finding directions, carrying food supplies and clothes and medicines, etc. are permitted to be carried, I would say that some of the simple boats used in a few Asian countries, would be the most environment friendly. These boats are made of wooden planks or logs of fallen trees, and run by  wind power (simple sails made from plain fabric) and human effort. It is of course a moot question whether such traditional boats could stand the vagaries of the sea and weather that one meets during a prolonged journey an Atlantic crossing involves.

This answer only addresses the 'environment' aspect, not the overall practicability of such a crossing.

  4. Swim.

  5. Sail.

  6. Make a sailboat out of an iceburg.  You can use all natural materials plus help cool the ocean.

  7. A cruise ship.  They carry the most people for the gas they use.  All products are are carefully disposed of and/or recycled, they do their own laundry with water that has been retreated on their ships.  It's slower than an airplane but it is environmentally friendly, plus it's more fun.
