When disposing a tissue is it more environmentally friendly to throw it away in the trash or flush it down the toilet? Assume the tissue is used in a traditional way like blowing your nose (nothing toxic on the tissue) and assume you already have to flush the toilet (you are not flushing the toilet just for the tissue).

  1. Save them up till you fill your garbage can full then light it.But be safe and have a fire extinguisher on hand.Good luck..

  2. A more enviromently way is to hrow it away even if it has nothing toxical it wastes over 5 litres per tissue.

  3. if u wanna throw a tissue then either dispose it off in a nearby recycle can or plz 4 god's sake wait until u c a garbage bin until u throw it and if u dont find one plz throw it after going home and not in a way side sewer as it may cause blockage.

  4. Well, how about trying to get rid of your need to use tissues first! And buy a handkerchief that you can REUSE and therefore you will be not be creating any waste!

But, if you need a answer....I say throw away. Because you wouldn't want anything but natural waste going down your toilet. Because it will eventually clog it.

This was a good question, nice thought.

  5. Of those options, the trash is best.

Sadly, tissues shouldn't be composted because of the biological matter inside.

When you flush a tissue, your local sanitary district station has to filter out the tissue and biological matter. Granted, they're already doing it to all of the water, but why add to it? Then, they have to dispose of that matter, too. It's just a longer trip to the landfill.

When you chuck it into the trash, it still goes into a landfill, but you're not paying to have someone filter it out and THEN send it to a landfill.

If you're on a septic system, trash is definitely the way to go. You don't want to fill your tank early with tissue, forcing you to have it pumped frequently ... sending the tissue to a landfill.
