    Actually, the most exciting was the day we escaped from the usual and went into the regular city in Paris, attending a regular family's New Year's Eve party at their home on a snowy evening about 15 years ago.  We had our teenager with us, and she thought this was the most uncool thing to do, but...

    She has turned into a world traveler, partly, I believe, on account of our getting off the beaten path and seeing "real life" in the places we visit.
