  1. well all hamsters can bite at first since they are afraid, but by time they wil get used to you.  a syrian hamster is very playful, but you will need plenty of time to offer it during the evenings since a syrian hamsters like running around in the evening and probably you will need to take it out in your room to run... while dwarf hamsters love each others company, they are lovely to observe and get very tamed too :)  robo hamsters are very fussy and run around.

  2. Hi!

    There are mainly 3 breeds of hamsters sold in pet shops.

    --> Syrian hamster is the most common breed.

      They are biggest (they can grow up to 7 inches (18 cm) in length, the female being larger than the male ) and the slowest ones too.

      In the wild captivity Syrian Hamsters  are solitary and defend their territory with the price of their life. In captivity they keep their solitary instinct and don't accept the company of other hamsters. Even if as a baby their might live together, unfortunately,after the age of 6-10 weeks they start fighting with their cage mates.

    If you intend to buy a Syrian hamster you have to remember that you shall never keep more than one Syrian hamster in a  cage!

    But don't worry! Even they don't like to have roommates, they love human company!

      A fact that I don't like about them is that they bite quite bad if they are scarred or disturbed from their sleep (and they sleep to much, comparing to Russian Dwarfs)!

    --> Dwarf hamsters:

             -->Winter white Russian hamsters

    Are the best if you ask me. they are playful, they don't bite(even if they do it doesn't hurt  but at first you may be scared:)). They have a great ability: in the winter their fur changes from Normal, Sapphire, and Pearl to ...White!

    They are great if you don't have the space necessary to buy a big cage for a Syrian  hamster. And they don't sleep as much as Syrians do. They play in the wheel during the day, too(at least mine does).

    Unlike Syrian hamsters, winter white Russian hamsters are social with their own species and can be kept in same s*x pairs or groupings, but  only if they are introduced at a young age.

    -->Roborovski hamsters

    Is the newest species of hamster introduced as a pet. They are only 2 inches (4-5 cm) when fully grown. They are very fast and agile. A big advantage is that they rarely nip. Yupiii.

    But unfortunately they aren't easy to handle because they are very very active. The cage must be as big as if you had a Syrian because their hobby is : RUNNING:)!

    Unlike Syrian hamsters, Roborovski hamsters are social with their own species and can be kept in same s*x pairs or groupings, but  only if they are introduced at a young age.

             -->Dwarf Russian Campbells

    They reach about 4 inches (10 cm) at adult age. Even if they are small and cute, Campbell hamsters have a bad reputation: they usually tend to bite if they feel threatened.

    Like Roborovsky, they are difficult to handle and aren't recommended if you have a small child.

    They have the poorest eyesight of all hamsters so be careful when handling him.

    Unlike Syrian hamsters, dwarf Russian Campbells hamsters are social with their own species and can be kept in same s*x pairs or groupings, but  only if they are introduced at a young age.

    -->Chinese hamsters

    Even if some put them together with dwarfs, I agree with the ones that consider them a different breed.

    Chinese hamsters are 4 inches (10 cm) when they reach maturity. They aren't as sleepy as Syrians: they are active even if the day, but for short periods of time.

    They are quite timid and rarely bite.Chinese hamsters are quick and hard to handle.

    If you want to buy yourself a Chinese hamster, prepare for long days of shopping because they are hard to find in pet shops.

    Chinese hamsters are restricted to some areas. For example, if you are from California you need a permit if you  want to keep a Chinese Hamster as a pet.

    If you need to find out more about hamsters you can find it at http://www.HamsterBungalow.com, a brand new site dedicated to all hamster lovers. If you don't find what you are loooking for on my site, be patient. I'm just starting to roll the wheel - just like my hamsters :)! Come back weekly as I will post fresh information that I hope will be of help to you!

    Good luck!

  3. You are best fit for a syrain. These are the biggest hamster. They tend to be less active and more friendly than dwaves. They don't bite that much as long as you handle them regularly. They will get along with you and other humans, but they will not get along with other hamster. I think this would be your best bet. These hamsters may be seen under other names including Blackbear, Teddybear, tortiseshell, and dalmation, ect...
