Try looking into the story of the Bell Witch. It is supposedly a true story. It's rather frightening to think about thi actually happening.

Basically, the story is bout a witch that haunts a family in the 1800s. Strange things keep happening to the family, such as children being strangled in the middle of the night by...nothing.

Also, I believe they made a movie based on the event. I think it's called "An American Haunting" I may be wrong, though.
