I want to cause the least fear, pain, and discomfort in the poor things while still claiming their meat as essential food for my family. Dislocation of the spine seems best, except that it requires some skill and I'd hate to not "get the job done" the first time and put the rabbit in unnecessary pain.

  1. Yeah = what he said... only snap the neck first.  Grab it by the head and lift it up quickly, then drop it like a hangman, and SNAP! there ya go, THEN cut it's head off after you gut it.  Q.E.D.

  2. It really depends if you are hunting them or if you have raised them for food.  If you have easy access to them shooting them in the head with a .22 caliber firearm is pain free.  They are killed instantly and don't feel anything.

  3. I really wouldn't know,As long as the grocery store has them already done,I wouldn't kill an animal. I know that the ones at the store have been slaughtered, but they have already BEEN slaughtered. Understand? Back to the point, I would shoot it ,if I had to.And only if I had to. I'm not beneath killing an animal if it were to put food on my family's table.

  4. Dislocating the spine is the most commonly accepted way of killing them without unnecessary pain. Maybe there is someone in your area who raises rabbits for food who can show you how it is done. It is not very difficult but an experienced rabbit farmer can get you past your worries.

  5. kill it
