What is the most humane way to kill a chicken?

I have a sick chicken and want to let her go humanely, how do I do it?

go to a vet and tell them you want her put down maby she will get better its hard to deside just let nature do its thing thats the best thing you can do

the humanest thing you can do for one of my Sisters is to take her to the vet. Please bury her and make sure all the other chickens know what happened. Last month one of my sisters, Petunia, escaped and was killed by a fox. We only just found out and most of us were beside ourselves with worry when she was gone.

OMG, please go to the vet.  Don't slit it's throat or chop his head off.  At least by them putting the chicken to sleep for you, he won't know he's getting ready to die.

the vet can do this. the will give her sleeping gas so she does not feel the shot. the stuff in the shot will stop her heart. i have had to do this with my firsr canary when she had a grand maul seizure and would not pull out of it. it sucks but it was better than having her suffer for hours. i am so sorry for your pain hunny.

first off  if  you have any other chickens  remove  the sick one  from them  to avoid infecting  the others.. Then either call a vet  or if  your a farmer like  me  you'd  break  its  neck.. by twisting the head around..(sounds cruel  but  its  instant  and effective, with  no blood..) I would rather  put one down than maybe  have something  kill my whole flock.

I know  its hard  if  its  a pet.. But  don't let  it suffer.

You can take it the the vet or your local animal care and control office and they can put it down for you.

If you are the farming, rural type you and decapitate it.  I know it sounds cruel but, it is very quick and they feel no pain.  You may see it twitch or move a bit but that is just the nerves and muscles spasming.

A very sharp knife through the roof of the mouth to pierce the brain. Its instant death for the chicken and nothing messy for you. I have never tired it, but alot of people on my poultry forums say its easy and the chicken never has an idea.

there are traveling vets that would come to your home and put the chicken down for you, in a humane way. good luck to you and your chicken!
