Financially what is more important

Membership, crowd numbers, revenue from merchandise, TV revenue, jumper sponshorship etc.?

The general opinion is a team from Tassie is not financially viable and I dont understand why?

Just wondering what brings in the most bucks

  1. membership helps and i for 1 would buy a membership to a tasmanian side as well as keeping my own team membership up to date

tas could also get the millions the tas gov gives to the hawks to play down here

as for gate takings i can assure you when any of the big vic clubs play in aurora you would fill the place to the rafters

    go tassie

  2. depends on the club

for example collingwood whilst having a big member base, they gain a large amount of their money through sponsorship and owning/running pubs

whereas a team like the kangaroos rely heavily on members and sponsorships

whilst you would think merchandise and crowd numbers would be a huge seller it really isnt, purely because the AFL takes x amount of money before the clubs even see it

  3. Club sponsorship; sale of corporate boxes on match days; player sponsorship; stacks of paid up members who spend money over the bar; sale of club merchandise (that's why the clubs change the design of their jumpers so often).

Bums on seats at home games - that's the main drawback in Tassie. Matches there so far have not drawn large crowds. Though the crowd issue may have a lot to do with the fact that Tassie don't have their "own" team.

  4. all of the above and:

    1) Corporate sponsorship

    2) Player sponsorship

    3) Speaking engagement

    4) Money from people using club facilities

    5) Products endorsements

  5. membership sponsership venue seats and promotions

  6. g'day campo, mate, you may have noticed in all my answers about this subject, i am all for a tassie side instead of west Sydney or the gold coast.

all those things you mentioned are important, it is the whole box and dice.

the thing is, the AFL will bank roll these two new teams and will lose millions of dollars, is this why we pay $45 dollars to go to the footy, for these clowns to waste it?

Why can't they help a Tassis side if it struggles early on, Tassie is a footy state, the people don't have to converted.

But hey, we all know Andy and co don't and won't listen to the general public.

  7. Everything you mentioned.  Membership, crowd numbers, merchandise sales, sponsorship, TV revenue etc are all important revenue streams.  Also lowering costs.  Many Vic teams have ground sharing arrangements which lowers costs.

I believe a Tasmanian team would not only survive, but flourish.

Those who are critical of the possibility of a Tasmanian team are worried about the future of their own team.  They fear the future

  8. camp dog,i agree all of those things like membership, sponsorship, merchandise, home ground revenue etc, are all important in their roles as money raisers fro their respective clubs.

personally though id say big and long term sponsors would be up near the top of the list and also in this day and age clubs need to expand into other areas with their money i.e investing in property,shares,pubs/clubs etc and think more outside the box than ever to stay a head of the game and stay viable.

i know collingwood has a number of clubs in the suburbs of Melbourne (with pokies) and carlton has recently accuired a couple of pubs in the inner city
