That depends on how you define important. If define "importance" as the power to influence society I think Microsoft still holds the greatest position.

On the other hand perhaps one of the biggest issues facing America (and the rest of the world) today is the price of gas. The companies that develop alternative fuels or more efficient ways to produce gas are also very important.
