I definitely would recommend Toque!  Normand Laprise is the best chef in Montreal.  The restaurant's atmosphere is cozy and the food is marvelous.  Certainly expensive though, but you don't seem to care!

the greatest, and most expensive in most all of Canada has got to be Newtown...it is owned by Formula 1 driver Jaques Villenueve.....definately the "place to be, and be seen" in Montreal today..three floors and a full on nightclub in the basement....a close second is Buena Notte(sp?) another great restaurant where all the staff are models and/or aspiring actresses...it also turns into a great hotspot at night

Having worked in Montreal at the QE in the 1980's I find it hard to believe no one mention the "Beaver Club", we had an extensive wine and food list there, when I worked in the main kictchen, and for a place to take someone special it is a must see place.
