  4. The record for the number of gold medals is 7, which I don't think he's broken yet (but at this rate, he will).

  5. Most medals won lifetime: Larissa Latynina (1956-1964) 18 total

Most gold medals won lifetime: Michael Phelps (2000-2008) 12 total

Most medals won single olympics: Michael Phelps (2004) 8 (6-0-2) and

    Aleksandr Dityatin (1980) 8 (3-4-1 )

Most gold medals single olympics: Mark Spitz (1972) 7

There's a difference between what was asked and what was answered by many people. The question was most medals, not most gold medals, and Michael Phelps has (now) 14 medals.

  6. well the most medals won in a single Olympic was by Mark spitz who won 7 gold medals. However, micheal phelps will probably win 8 gold medals in Beijing this setting a new possible record.

  7. last olympics in athens he won 6 medals but idk if that's the most in a single olympics but i'm pretty sure it's up there
