  1. Competitions: Carmen

    Galas: You Raise me Up

The Mission and 1492 are also heavily overdone (albeit they are still great pieces of music).

  2. PINK PANTHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. the MOONLIGHT SONATA, SWAN LAKE, and seriously, any Tchaikovski song. When I start competing out there I ain't gunna skate to any of these repetitive songs, I'd rather skate to a rock'n'roll type of song than to these obnoxious songs EVERY skater skates to, it gets boring after a while...

  4. CARMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SWAN LAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NUTCRACKER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

Oh my gosh do they get extremely overused. In one Olypics I belive Debby Thomas of USA and Katarina Witt of Germany both skated to Carmen. They were known as the Two Carmen's from then on in competitions.

  5. At my club in artistics everyone's been using music from hairspray - there were two girls in one division doing the exact same cut of 'Mama I'm a Big Girl Now!' and another two doing 'You Can't Stop the Beat!'

When I hear those songs now I cringe haha =]

  6. the top five fav songs for skating are

music from the sound of music

    anything from disney

    the nutcracker

    pink panther theme

    and

    phantom of the opera

  7. Easily: Malaguena

    Close Second: Carmen

    Some others:

    The Feeling Begins

    On the Waterfront

    Swan Lake

    Rachmaninov 2

    Paint It Black

    Moonlight Sonata

    Zorba the Greek

    Concerta for Coloratura

And of course, there are pieces of music which have been overused at one time but are no longer overused--or used at all. The bell suite and love theme from Ice Castles was disgustingly popular in 1979-80, but might be a nostalgia piece now. Similarly, Hooked on Classics I and II were insanely overused in 1981. Might be a toe-tapper today.

There is also the option to use a lesser used bit of the score, like Michelle Kwan did with Carmen. The Rondo from the Moonlight Sonata isn't overused. How many people would even recognize the second movement? Classical music fans, for sure, but skatefans? Probably not.

Look beyond the easily overused classics and the currently popular stuff. Rent some old movies from Netflix. Listen to the scores. You can still buy the sountracks. There's 50 years of rock and roll--a good solid bit of it was extended instrumental solos. Ask your parents. Or find out what the next great thing is from asking around for under-hyped music and bands. I once cut a program to an Astor Piazolla tango YEARS before they became popular and overused.

    Choose something different.

  8. PINK PANTHER AND PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN

  9. carmen, swan lake, anything bethoven, and Pirates of the Carribean! omg. im always looking for more fun music. snore!!!!!!!

  10. all of the above and then at my compitition 2day i heard pink panther about a million times. And at my synchro easterns this year, EVERYBODY skated to thriller. it was sooooo annoying. but not as annoying as hannah montana skaters. but i digressed. the point is, people need to get original music
