I heard somewhere that is you spell 'craziest' on the corner of the board, you get 311 points. Is that true? Are there any other words that can get more than that?

  1. Theoretically, OXYPHENBUTAZONE scores something like 1778 across 3 triples.  People have done it many times in collaborative games where the other player assists in setting up the conditions necessary.  But who cares, that's fake Scrabble anyway.

QUIXOTRY for 365 is nice.  There's also CAZIQUES and BEZIQUES, potentially 392 pts if no blanks are involved, and assuming no additional hooks (in which case, it could be higher, by the amount of the hooked word).

  2. I believe "popquiz" on a triple word score will be 29 X 3 with a p on the double letter would would equal 93, plus you would get 50 points bonus for using all your letters, so it would equal 163, plus you would get all the points for the vertical word you just played on.  Also it is actually likely to happen because you have seven letters to play and all you have to do is connect it to a word so that you made extra words.

  3. One better example I found is BENZOXYCAMPHORS. If you place the Z and H on double letter score, and cover three triple word scores (see the website below for illustrations), you can score 1593 points.

I don't know that this is the MOST points you can earn with one word, though.

  4. The previous poster gave you an interesting link.   It is a possibility, but I don't think it has ever actually occurred.

Here is a link that is reported to record the highest score that has ever been recorded in one game in Scrabble.

If you make the word "quizzed" using a blank at the same place you mention, it will be more points than "craziest" on that same spot.  It would be 55 x 6 = 330, plus 50 point for using all your letters, which is 380, plus whatever points for the word you built onto.
