the most popular food in India is Samosa, tandoori chicken ( yum!!!!), kachori, curry, and etc. there is no popular food in India because there are so many variety of foods they make (Which taste awesome). I just gave you some foods which are known everywhere in Indian Cuisines.

in south india people like idly vada dosa poori and pongal.,rice

in north they like chappathi rotis

Rice .... doesn't matter where you are from .... North / South / East / West .. vegetarian / non-vegetarian .... it constitutes 15 to 80 % of food depending on region to region .... no one notices it ... but every one ends up eating rice

I really don't think you'll find an answer to this question. Food changes pretty drastically from region to region, even state to state. Everyone's going to have a different opinion. Only thing I would venture is rice.

And for the love of god "curry" is not a single food.
