What is the most popular guitar company (acoustic) ?

yes, i know that the big companies are:

taylor

martin

breedlove

and gibson

but im getting my friend a new guitar for his b-day,

and im no guitar specialist

i have $800 to spend

any help?

You're VERY generous to buy him a new guitar for his birthday!!

But if you don't know anything about guitars, or about what he would like in a new guitar, I would STRONGLY suggest that you give him a gift certificate to a good guitar store in your area, or go with him to the guitar store, and allow him to choose the instrument himself.  That way, you can be sure that he will get the guitar that feels, plays and sounds best to him and that he will love.  :-)

I agree with Rachel and would actually counter the Ovation guitar idea. I've owned one, they're good, durable guitars.  But the round, plastic body just doesn't compare to the resonance and rustic sound of real wood.

All that to say, you're a good friend for spending $800 on a guitar. My birthday's coming up; let me know if you need another friend.  ;-) j/k
