Gracie Jiu Jitsu or (Brazilian Jiu jitsu). It's what's hot right now. It's also the most proven martial arts in the world. I know some other martial art practitioners will knock on me for saying that. Only because the truth bothers. It's the most realistic street adapted style you can use that's out there.

If you mean what is the most widely studied style. I would say karate. If you mean the most widely known style I would still say karate. If you take kung fu, judo etc. there is always a few people who say"Oh you do karate?" They never say martial arts or the correct style it is just always karate.

Tae Kwan Do And Brazilian Jiu Jitsu are on top. Maybe Muay Thai to, might as well be MMA while we're at it.

Popular doesn't mean better than any other method.TKD promoters picked up on the western habit of being influenced by the "brand name"  in advertising and making it highly visible and easily available everywhere.

An easy ranking system and encouraging 1st degree black belts to open branch schools when other arts required you to be at least an experienced 3rd degree black belt helped build their numbers and popularity.

i say kung fu/wushu there is pretty much the only martial arts movie we watch is kung fu. with jackie chan, jet li, bruce lee.

I agree, probably TaeKwonDo.  There seems to be no shortage of TKD schools EVERYWHERE.  Finding traditional Karate, Kung Fu or JuJitsu is noticeably harder.

Tai Chi Chuan. Just alone in China there are millions of old people who practice it in the morning at parks. And they're not even treating it as a martial art but as a way to keep fit.  You can try going to gardens or parks in the morning you are bound to see some old(mostly)people in a group doing tai chi forms.

Taekwondo is probably the second most popular but I still think that Tai Chi is number 1 in terms of popularity. Karate comes next as a close third.

In MMA, Muay Thai and Brazillian Jiujitsu is probably the most popular.
