I could write an essay to answer this question, but I'll make it short and sweet. Militarily, economically, technologically, ideologically, politically, and culturally the United States of America is, hands down, the most powerful nation on Earth. There isn't even a close second place.

I am going to have to say the USA.  It has the largest and most advanced military ( hich make up for China's numbers), I have the power to take the oil if it has too.  It corpoations rule the business world.  There is a McDonlads in Red Square.  It media outlets 'report' to the world.  The AP is use by even the BBC.  An its people heve the most freedoms in the world.  They can own almost anything they want, can say almost anything they want.  They can do anything they want.  So they are the most powerful.

The United States. No other country has ever matched the United States, not even the Soviet Union. We are a new nation which was founded over a large resourceful mine that is beautiful and has inspirted a nation that promises freedom and a nation protected by the government not the other way around.

The United States has the best economy, best military(BY FAR), best government(stability). No offense but people aren't learning English because of the UK, but because American English is the language of trade. China has a huge economy. It may not have as many weapons or soldiers are countried like the USA, but no country will put a trade embargo on china.

China. Just because America exercises it's power, doesn't make it the most powerful.

They'd get raped in war with China, mainly because half the east would side with them. Plus, it may not be the most advanced airforce (which means diddly squat as the Faulklands proved) but it is certainly the largest and Migs are not to be sniffed at.

These things boil down to manpower in the end (as Russia proved in WWII) and China certainly has that.

The USA has the most advanced military with the most advanced weaponry. They can hit a an area the size of a tennis court with a missle from anywhere in the world. They have the F-22 which is by far the most advanced military aircraft in the world, and they will be among the first to have the F-35 which will be the only aircraft to rival the F-22's capabilities.

From an economic perspective, this world runs on oil. Therefore the countries that control oil control the global economy. However since oil is spread out throughout the world, no single country has a high enough percentage of oil to cripple the rest of the world. If Iran completely shut down oil production, gas prices would skyrocket, but there are enough other countries that would continue to produce oil, that the US military could still function and sustain a war.

Therefore, I rest my case that the United States is the most powerful country.
