These days? Have the right connections (personal or political) in the industry.

Because if you do it the old-fashioned way--via query letters and submissions--you're going to be spending most of your life trying to get into the door and not getting anywhere fast as a result.

Get an agent. I can't tell you the best way to do that, but there are books out there such "Book Publishing for Dummies" which are helpful... I hope you find your answer!
