I suggest something web orientated as so many people tend to transact online these days, and it cuts down on your overheads.

Since much of the market are using aggregators (price comparison sites), why not find an sector with a niche for something similar? For example a grocery site that tells you all of the special offers across main suppliers, so users can choose a supermarker based on its deals.

If you could integrate this with social networking sites (Facebook, MySpace etc..) then you could have massive success.

I started a business.  I wish i had been brave enuf to do it years ago; instead of working for someone else.   There is no "most profitable" business.   Hardware stores have the least profit margin.... you make apx 1% profit on a nail so you have to sell a lot of nails to make a living.   Candle stores are easy to open but how many candles a day do people buy?  I read that 9 out of 10 small businesses close.  They couldn't make a profit.   I also read that the business that is most likely to still be operating in 10 years is a jewelry store..... but that's because most jewelry stores take $2Million to open so you know the owners are already rich and can make it thru the hard times.

I think you already know what business you are interested in.  Start small in your home before leasing space in an office building or shopping center.  If you make a profit , use that money to open the store.

One trend right now is wood-burning stoves... If you want to try your luck with food, try a chip stand (hot-dogs and fries are cheap to buy and can be sold at competitive prices)
