This was sooo easy.  I entered "Germany, religions" in the search bar.  The first sentence of the 1st article gives the ANSWER. The search bar makes research so much easier.  I see the other ansewer is discussing denominations...but since youasked about "religions" , not denominations, I got the info on religions.

Protestantism is most common -- specifically Lutheranism. In Germany, you will hear this described as "Evangelisch" -- but it basically refers to all Protestant churches. It has no connection to what is called "Evangelicalism" in the United States.

In Southern Germany (that is, Bavaria and the Black Forest), Catholicism is most common.

Southern Germany: Catholic christian

Eastern Germany: Atheism

Notice, these are just the majorities. The rest is present also everywhere. Besides, there are some jews, muslims and other religions.

Ammendment @Rick: I am from eastern Germany, and about 90% of the people I know are atheists. My family is atheist, my classmates at school were, my friends are. I think, I DO have a clue.

in northern germany the most people are Protestantism and in the south katholics.But it´s not important in germany how religion you have (that´s better than in another countries in northern Europe).When you want a job no one watch which religion the people have.

germany is not a religious country. I would say 60% of the germans are atheists. Even the most members of the churches are never pray.

I'm from the south, people here are mostly catholic, but I lived and worked in Berlin for some time, where people mostly are Lutheranian-protestant. There are jewish and muslim communities in most larger cities, and I just don't know what the Japanese populations' religion is; some kind of Shintoism, I suppose?

Don't trust the statistics from government offices. Here in Germany, you have to fill out a form when you move at the town hall and one of the questions is which religion are you. If you fill in this line you have to pay a church tax....so, many people don't fill this line in. I would say that Evangelist is the most common religion in Germany except in Bayern and Baden-Württemberg where there are more Catholics. The answer that said the FORMER DDR is atheist doesn't have a clue.

As I am from Germany I can tell u that here are a lot of catholics.

Germany is a religious country but not as much as the USA ist.

In the West and South of Germany almost everyone is catholic.
