What is the most "sure footed and smooth gaited" horse for mountain riding?

  1. The most sure footed equine for the mountains is the mule! The fact that they are used to carry passengers to the bottom of the Badlands and the Grand Canyon, speaks for itself!

    Another great horse for this sort of riding is the approprietly named, Kentucky Mountain Horse!  A very sure footed, strong boned, gaited horse!


  2. Icelandic horses are smooth gaited,walk,trot,tolt,canter and some can do a flying pace on a race track. They are very sure footed and wonderful horses for trails and mountains.

  3. Well the 2ND answer was really good ,, mule because he will make sure he will not get hurt ....But he is Not gaited ,,



    So ,, I really feel this question is up to the person who owns one  that they think is safe and gaited ,,



    I think A Paso , is good, I have ridden them and they preform great,, Not at jumping logs etc on the trails . But easy to ride Kind and small ,,, and The ones I have ridden have been great ,,



    Now as a person who really does not care if one is gaited or not I will list a few picks of my own ,,I hope this helps some? may not be gaited ,,!!!
