What is the most reliable engine for a 20 foot boat?

it does rather depend on what you are using the boat for.i would opt for a diesel.they are more reliable and give less problems than a petrol  engine.air cooled duetz which come jn a variety of cylinder arrangements.they are slightly more noisy but this is more than made up for in reliabilty.They are easily serviced.Also very easy to get parts for.

I used to own a 22-foot Catalina, and it was powered by a 7.5 hp Honda outboard. Never had any problems, and was wonderfully easy to work on.

A set of paddles.   They rarely break down and require little maintenance.   They work in any weather, but have been known to be faster when inclement weather is coming.
