I am just wondering out of all the equipment used in capturing paranormal activity, what has been the most reliable and accurate?

After watching so many seasons of Ghost Hunters, GHI, Paranormal State, etc... I am still left wondering. I have been impressed with many of them as they gather evidence, but how reliable and accurate are the various cameras (still/video), K2 meter, Ovilus, psychics, EMF detectors, thermometers, digital audio, ect...?

  1. I think an IR camera (regular camera modified or with IR film) Just because I personally believe the theory that ghosts are on a different plane of light that our eyes. These cameras pick up the planes that we can't see. The famous picture of the white lady of bachelor's grove was taken with an IR camera, as well as many others. Now, because this is such an expensive piece of equipment and/or expensive film, I always go with my electronic voice recorder.

  2. The most reliable tool in paranormal investigation is a sceptical mind.

  3. Anal Beeds

  4. A digital recorder.  EVP is one of the few things people are having a hard time disproving.  It convinces a lot of people.  Pictures and video can be faked.  EVP is much harder.  Definetly the digital recorder is the most important, in my opinion.

  5. A skeptical mind governed by reason.

  6. If i had to get a tool for paranormal event I would take a sound frequency radar.

  7. i am a ghost hunter and i thought  the camera was the best tool for a long time.but after 5 yrs of investigating now i would say the voice recorder is the best tool.but that's my opinion.

  8. The most valuable piece of equipment is your brain. I disagree with those who say one must be skeptical. I also disagree with the person who says an EVP can't be faked. Sure it can. There is NO way of knowing if there was someone standing infront of that recorder whispering something. You may know because you were there. But all I have is your word that no one else was. Voice recorders are no better than photography or video.

With regards to a lot of these shows out there? None that I've seen make any mention of lunar phases. Ghost Hunters goes in and if they record nothing they say there is no haunting. If a shark hunter goes into the ocean and doesn't see a shark, he doesn't say there are none in these waters. He says he didn't find any in those waters. Paranormal activity spikes during full moons. Especially blue moons. That's when there are two full moons in one month. It happens once a year.

There is just SO much more to REAL paranormal investigation than these shows allow for. Hit the library. Get some books and study. Don't just study paranormal phenomena, but study science as well. Nicola Tesla and his work should be at the top of your list. Radio, MRI, today's popular "earth friendly" light bulbs. He gave us so much and yet, folks of his day thought he was a nutter.

  9. all u need is a evp, that tells u about anything u want to know about a person that has passed,i use mine all the time,28 bucks at walmart, and never fails to get someones voice on it

  10. Darn it, Gray took my answer. But in addition to a skeptical mind, a camera or video recorder would be my next choice. Typical consumer cameras are typically pretty bad in the dark though, and image noise and compression can produce strange artifacts in the video that really aren't there, so please do your ghost hunting with the lights on. I don't see any reason to turn the lights out except to scare yourself and stub your toe!

Ovilus -- junk, entertainment-only piece of junk. All it does is select words from its internal dictionary based on arbitrary sensor readings. This is not scientific.

K2 or EMF meter -- without training it's difficult to even decipher what you're measuring, let alone the fact that there is no reason to think that ghosts produce any kind of EM field anyway.

Thermometers -- you're measuring drafts. Again, how do you tell the difference between a ghost and a draft? Thermometers generally are very slow to respond as well.

Digital voice recorder -- great for taking notes during an investigation

  11. I agree with EVP.  For me its the most interesting because a picture can tell you somthing may be there, but an EVP can come closer to getting into the mysteries of why...ect.  And your right GHs have gotten thier own voices I think.  Even though I love the show.  There have also been some seriously convincing ones. 12. For me it will be an thermal imaging camera because you can see outlines of anything paranormal but it sometimes reflect and you see

your own shadow so I recommend it.

  13. Personally, I think a thermal imaging camera is most reliable but only to the trained eye. If one does not know how to properly use it, they may catch reflections.

EDIT: Least reliable would be a psychic or those two hand held small metal pole things (what a joke).
