Today, I got pulled over going 65 in a 60. WTF. Of course, the cop said I was going 70 but I was staring at my speedometer when he flicked on his lights...65! (and my speedometer was calibrated about two months ago) He said he needed to make an example of me because I was going faster than him and that my orange car stands out. Can you say profiling? He only gave me a warning because he knew he was lying. Anybody else run into jerks like this?

  1. Cops can be a******s, its part of their job. I know it sucks, but they are always uptight and rude. Its never personal. As a cop you never know if the car you pull over is your last. Usually they saying is "9 you're fine, 10 your mine" meaning 9 over the speed limit and your ok but 10 over and your getting a ticket. If its a state trooper dont ever challenge a ticket, but if its city or sheriff always challenge it becuase those guys could care less about going to a court settlement. If the cop looks like a rookie never challenge the ticket. State troopers always go to court if you challenge a ticket and then you will be screwed. Cops would be more likely to bust you in a small town if your going over the speed limit.

  2. With your attitude, I don't think there will be an answer that you will be happy with.

    You didn't get a ticket.

    Quit whining.

  3. I haven't run into any jerks yet thank God. I got pulled over once for doing 66 in 45. The cop let me go, didn't even give me a warning or anything, just said "take it easy" and left! And no, I'm not a hot a*s girl, I'm a guy!

So not all of them are jerks.

    Cheers

Edit - well what did you expect? Any stand out car gets much more attention from police, because the drivers of those cars usually don't stop on making their car look "cool", they also feel the need to stand out by the way they drive.

If any police officers see this maybe they can answer which car would they most likely pull over - a bright orange sporty car with rims/exhaust etc going 75 in 65 or a dark gray corolla going 85? I bet it would be the first one 90% of the times.

  4. I actually got pulled over for doing 61 in a 60 on an Illinois highway by one of their state troopers.  And to top it off, he actually wrote me a written warning for it.  As a police officer, I though that was completely ridiculous.  If it was a construction zone or something like that maybe I would have been "ok" with it, but it was just a regular highway.

I forgot to answer the second part of the question:  I have pulled over a motorcycle for 136 in a 65.  I was shocked he actually stopped for me!

  5. Hello Patrick. I read your question and it brought back a very old memory that I hadnt thought of in years. In 1976, the wife and I were on vacation and driving from NY to GA. I was pulled over in North Carolina by a State Trooper for going 66 in a 65. He was very polite and businesslike and actually told me to "slow down". I didnt argue, being out of state and having mental pictures of sitting in a jail hundreds of miles from home.

Naturally, and I am assuming the Trooper would think this also, being out of state, I was not going to drive back to fight the ticket. I contacted the Clerk of Courts for the area and it cost me $85. They actually broke the cost down with the actual fine being $10. The rest was administrative costs, filing fees, etc. Highly annoying, but they had me by the short hairs, so I just paid it.

I got a letter about 4 months later telling me my "driving privileges" had been revoked in North Carolina due to my speeding ticket and if I wanted to reinstate them, it would cost me another $15.

I thought about it for a bit and figured if I didnt pay it, with my luck, I would drive through the state 20 years later and have it bite me right where it would hurt the most. So I paid the $15 additional and kept all the paperwork they sent me.

I havent driven through North Carolina since that time. But $100 for going 1 mile over the speed limit. I'll bet the Trooper must go home laughing his azz off each day when he gets the out of staters like that.

But that was the slowest speeding ticket I ever had in my life.

Take care and best of luck to you
