  1. Straight. People think it is so easy because you can shoot any ball on the table. But, straight requires skills in most billiard games including caroms and good safety play.

  2. Probably banks or one pocket.

A lot of people think they are good at banking but the game is a lot more difficult than people might think. Learning to play position for banks takes time. Freddy the Beard's books are a great tool to help learn the game.

One hole is just a dang tough game no matter how you slice it. Anyone that thinks its simple probably hasn't played it. Potting balls is one thing, but learning the moves is a whole different story.

  3. Playing eight ball by tournament rules, it a totally differnet game then bar rules

  4. Carom or the carambole.  People find it boring just by looking at the pocketless table, which means there's no pocketing involved in this game.  It's a thinking man's game, just trying to hit all three balls in one shot at every turn.  It requires great cue ball control and precise shotmaking, including angles, positioning and speed.  Players who played this game found 9-ball and other pocket billiard games very easy because of their mastery of positioning and cue ball control.  The great Efren Reyes was a practitioner of this game before the onset of the 9-ball game that the latter became too easy for him.

  5. 3-cushion or carom for pure skill.  It's hard enough for most people to figure out where the cue ball will end up coming off of one or two cushions, not to mention shots that hit the cushions first and then the first ball.

On a pool table, banks and one pocket.  Banks is more skillful and one-pocket is more strategic.  One pocket is like chess on the pool table, it's a lot more thinking than it is pocketing and position.
