What is the most you would spend on an alternative fuel source vehicle?

$2, I don't drive cars and I don't think they will be that popular in the future when we can download HD movies at any time, order products, even food online and can even work from our homes.

If I had set my mind to buying such a vehicle I would save and spend whatever was needed to buy the vehicle.

I'd pay 2 to 3 times as much as I would for a gas powered vehical, provided that I had consistent access to whatever fuel the car ran on (also assuming that the fuel is considerable less expensive than gas).

I'd go to twice the price of a comparable gasoline, IF -

1) I didn't have to go 20 miles out of my way to fill it

2) The cost per mile to operate was not much higher than for an ICE (gasoline internal combustion engine)

3) If had environmental benefits as well as "energy independence" (some options are much better than others)

If that alternative "fuel" source vehicle came with a means to refill/recharge that was totally in my control?  Then what I would spend would go up dramatically if it had a good warranty :)  For example, if I could get an battery EV that came with a solar panel charger option, I'd be happy to pay 3-4 times a gasoline price (unfortunately, I don't think we are anywhere near the solar panel efficiencies to do this - I'm sure it would take months to charge a vehicle high voltage battery this way).
