What is the motivation of people who write viruses, worms and other nefarious programs?

Some coders do it to see how good they are at coding programmings, others do it because they think its funny to s***w someone else's computer up. Others do it for the simple purpose of "I have nothing better to do", as well as to steal personal information of the victim (SS#, DOB, Passwords, etc...) and sell them on illegal chats for $20 to $50 a piece.

- To prove nothing is safe.

- The same reason there are competitions.

- Just because they can do it.

- The same reasons there are people who tries to ruin the reputation of people like Barack Obama...

- Bragging rights.

- Being the first at something.

years ago it used to be to just see what harm they could do. a type of notoriety amongst others that do the same..

that however has changed where people now write them economic gain.  sometimes they place spyware, adware or loggers on your computer to either get personal information, control your computer, etc... there is a value to each machine they could control.  also..there are cases where some viruses actually charge for a key to unlock or fix them.  there are countless groups both private and govt. around the world that ultimately catch the writers but the economic incentive keeps many going.

For 1. coders dunn write viri last time i checked. they have no purpose.

Most attackers write trojans or bots in order to spread. bots can actually make alot of money.

Only lamer kids use trojans to s***w with pplz computers. real coders spend most of their time though writing packers or crypters. which hide the fact that their malicious.

the underground coding world can make alot of money off selling their crypters and packers

packers are devices that change the value of data within a header. and crypters work like a advanced packer.

others do it just to spread their bots or trojans. which is a server running that makes a establish connection with a remote host. (the attacker)

most attackers use ppls computers to host bots which can make alot of money.

most attackers are just lamers but their not the one that writes these programs.  but they pay for it, over the underground coding black market,

its more of a place for bussiness. programers code public packers bots and trojans and release it. for free.

to get a wide variety of costumers to use it, then they code private ones which are undetectable against anti viruses and sell it.

and worms are methods of spreading their applications to a wide variety of victims.

but bots alot more can be gained. hosting a zombie botnetwork, one can use thousands of computers to send out messages to do things, like create spam.

Most of these ppl arent hackers. real hackers focos on exploits, which is writing a code that takes advatage of a flaw within a webservers database.

like SQL injection or RFI but most skiddies use these to attack.

Viruses though have no real purpose their pointless scripts that act and behave like real life viruses. they're known as viri.

But now adays most coders focus more on making trojans undetectable. by coding packers, binders or crypters.

attackers have used bifrost, and poision ivy for a very long time.

but then again thousands of trojans are being released, each month.

Well i dunn see the point of infecting ppl, but packers crypters and trojans i think are a facsinating thing.

trojan is the art of establishing a remote connection between 2 computers.
