Have just returned from Alicante where we stayed in a hotel in the old square. Every quarter of an hour the clock struck and a tune was played. We asked in the Town Hall but could not make ourselves understood so does anyone know the name of the music. It sounded like "You are my Sunshine" played at a slow speed!

  1. I'm from Spain.

Ok, the music of the bell towers is called "campanadas" or "carrillón". Campanadas is when the sound is no a music, only the beats in the bell with different frecuency. Carrillón is called when the bell sound is music, like a song...

In England is similar in the Big Ben of London.

  2. It may just have been a poor version of the standard ("Westminster") chime - if it was 4 chimes for each quarter of an hour.

  3. Then it probably was.
