Question:

What is the name for this African(?) dish?

I had it a couple of years ago. It was ground beef, onions, and spices (definitely lots cumin) wrapped in a thin flat bread and deep fried in little triangles shapes. I think it was some kind of east African dish. The woman who made it was Sudanese I think.

  2. samosas and its South Asian.The Portuguese adopted it when they colonized Goa and so took the recipe to african countries: there they are called it chamuças

    These countries inc the cape verde,mozambique and angola


  3. The triangle pastries are samosas and they are from India.

    Often they have potato and peas in them.  They can be also chicken or just veggie.  

    Homemade are great but you can get decent ones from a deli.  

    It is possible that if she was african she changed the spices and made it more like a jamaican patty which is usually half moon shaped.

  5. Jamaicans and others persons of African descent from the West Indies make them.  I've always heard them called "Meat pies."  You can get them at stores that serve Caribbean cuisine.  They do taste a lot like Samosas.
