  1. mother is known as the Dam

Father is known as the sire

  2. dam

  3. A mare (a female horse over 5 years old) who has a baby (a foal) is that foal's "dam."  A stallion is the foal's "sire."

'Dam' is the term that you would use for "mother."  But it's just a relational term...  the mare is still a mare if you're just refering to that horse.  You only use the term 'dam' when you're talking about her relationship with the foal.

  4. The mother is the dam and the father is the sire

If you were talking about the pedigree of a horse you would say it is by (the sire) and out of (the dam).

A female horse aged 4 or under is a filly

A female horse aged 5 or more is a mare

A male horse (that has not been castrated) aged 4 or under is a colt

A male horse (that has not been castrated) aged 5 or more is a horse or an entire.

A stallion is a male horse of any age (usually over the age of 4) that is actively covering mares.

A gelding is a castrated male horse of any age.

  5. The correct term is (Dam) the dad is (Sire) the colt is a male offspring, and the  filly is  a female offspring. kat

  6. You would call her a mare or a dam.

  7. Mare
