What is the name of an official book on a county's history.?

As in a personal history would be a biography // a county's history would be found in a ??? I had a family member who owned one. I know it begins w/ the letter 'a'

  1. I would go with the word "annal" -  Tacitus wrote what was later titled "The Annals" and it dealt w/ the history of a group of Roman emperors, I believe.

    I am guessing that the word 'annual' comes from 'annal'.  Anyway, here is a definition... (see below)

    Annals or annales (cf. annal) are a concise form of historical writing which record events chronologically, year by year.
