  1. This is a form of plea bargaining and is a common tactic used. When arrested, a person is usually charged with every violation committed. At pretrial, the DA will drop the smaller offenses if the person will accept a reduced sentence for the larger ( or largest ) offense.

    If the plea is rejected, the DA will usually prosecute each charge, which adds substantially to the total jail time a person could be facing.
