  1. the earth has only one moon - THE Moon. That is its name.

  2. As an avid amateur astronomer, I can tell you that the earth only has one moon

  3. *laughing*

    There is no second moon!

  4. there is only one moon. your information is wrong.

cruithne has an orbital relationship with the earth, but it's a major stretch to consider it a moon of earth.

  5. 3753 Cruithne

  6. Theakstons Old Peculier, or the results thereof. Please note, the spelling is correct.

  7. Cruithney, pardon the spelling, I've only heard the word. Sometimes pronounced 'crueenyay'.

    Edit: I'm surrounded by simpletons.

  8. Near-Earth asteroid 3753 Cruithne

    --Earth's curious companion--

The asteroid's behaviour is pretty complicated. It doesn't orbit the Earth, but rather it shares the Earth's orbit.

The name "Cruithne" refers the first Celtic racio-tribal group to come to the British Isles, appearing between about 800 and 500 B.C., and coming from the European continent. They were also known as the Picts.

The correct pronunciation for 'Cruithne' is "krooy-nyuh".

More about all this you can find at the link below.

  9. The "two moons in the sky" email going around says that Mars will appear the same size as the Moon.  However, Mars is currently on the far side of the Sun from us, and so will not make an appearance at even 1/100th the size of the Moon.

In the original, and quite accurate, 2003 email, the August 27th opposition (in 2003) had Mars so close that in a 100x telescope, Mars would look the same size as the Moon (without a telescope).  This let you get an idea on how much detail you could see of Mars in a backyard telescope.

The next Mars opposition is in January 2010.  It won't be as awesome as it was in 2003, but it will be pretty good all the same.

  10.   Luna 11.

  11. Basidium

  12. their is no another moon

  13. Just one moon for the earth.

  14. There is an asteroid that is often called "Earth's Second Moon" however, it's really not a second moon, it orbits the sun not the earth...

    the name is Cruithne

  15. The Earth has more then two moons there are hundreds even thousands and there called satellites.

  16. The asteroid Cruithne has been called "Earth's Second Moon" because of its peculiar orbit which is influenced by the Earth, but it is not really a moon at all.

    Cruithne is pronounced "krih-nyuh".

  17. You must mean the one Wallace & Grommit went to !!

Made of cheese & all that.

But seriously, what Earth do you live on ? there is only ONE moon.

  18. The International Space Station, none other.
