  1. As the third answerer mentioned it's really a wide field.

I have worked in the industry doing various jobs for thirty years and will mention the different kinds.

    1) is a trailing suction dredge, which is a ship that pulls along a log pipe that the "draghead" touches the bottom and a pump attached sucks up the material. This is also known as a hopper dredge

    2) a bucket dredge has a crane that has a big steel bucket that it drops on the bottom and the operator closes the bucket pulls it to the serface, swings it over an empty barge and drops the load into the hole.

    3) there is a suction dredge that is on a barge that swings back and forth from side to side while a "cutterhead" spins on the end of a pipe. there is a pump inline that sucks up the material and it is pumped through a pipeline to a disposal area.

There are combinations of these as well.

First you should know what the material consists of as some dredges work better with sand and not so good with clay etc.

You need to know your limitations in regards to the location you are dredging and you might find that say a cutter suction dredge would be unsuitable as you can't pump the material far enough to a disposal site.

You need to match the dredge to the job, both in scope and size of the project and material.

You really need to have a dredging consultant come and give you an idea of what you need. You could find one on the web.

I don't know of any in Indonesia However there is Australia dredging that has worked there before and you might see if they would be a good fit for you.

If your project is small you can buy the equipment in the states and have it shipped to your location.

Drop me an email if you want some more help.

  2. Dredge

  3. They are called dredgers. Most harbors have one to keep channels clear. Good luck.

  4. suction dredger

  5. Your question asks about equipment for sucking and pumping sand from the sea bottom, and other Answerers have suggested suction dredges as the equipment you are looking to find. But many dredges use chain operated buckets or modified shovels to do the same job, and they have an advantage in being able to move rock and gravel loads in addition to sand and mud, and at greater depths, or in locations with currents, where suction dredges often fail to work well.

You might want to broaden your search initially to just "dredging barges," and see what the availability and capabilities of a wider class of equipment really is.
