  1. I`m from Hungary, and as I know, it doesn`t have a special name. And there aren`t one Hungarian national costume. Variety of folk costumes exist.

  2. Are you thinking of "díszmagyar" (lit. "fancy Hungarian")? I.e. a velvet bodice with braid decoration, a long satin skirt, and a lace apron? (That's for women, obviously. For men, it's kinda like a modern black suit, only with black braid decoration, and a black satin bowtie with fringe on the ends.)

Díszmagyar evolved as the 19th century aristocracy's imitation of Hungarian folk costume. It's used when people want to dress up All Hungarian Like, but without alluding to any one specific regional costume, and they want to be fancier than "peasant blouse and flowery gathered skirt/black pants, white shirt, and colorful vest".

True Hungarian national (or "folk") costume depends greatly on the area: there's everything from tight felted wool pants (called hose, though that brings entirely the wrong picture to mind for most people) to very baggy linen pants that look practically skirt-like (and are worn with an embroidered apron, yes, by men); or from short skirts with so many underskirts that the top layer is practically horizontal, to almost floor-length skirts with the hem turned up to reveal the decorated underside.
